Nestled in Baruanagar of Charaideo district in the state of Assam, MUKTABARI TEA ESTATE is located in the quality tea belt of Upper Assam and has always made a mark as a high yielding and strong liquoring C.T.C. producer in the global tea map.
In the year 1927 Late Prasanna Kumar Barooah (1898 – 1975) son of Late Rai Bahadur Krishna Kumar Barooah (1862 – 1952) one of the Assamese Pioneers among the European Tea Planters conceived the idea of starting his own tea plantation and named it “MUKTABARI” in loving memory of his mother, Late Mukuta Devi, a pious, humble and spirited lady of that era. Both father and son were stalwarts and men of vision who picked up tea cultivation in parallel with the European tea companies visualizing the scope and future of tea drinking in the years to come.
In the year 1948 under the flagship of Late Prasanna Kumar Barooah, the plantation started a small tea factory to manufacture its own branded tea. Over the years this small factory has undergone tremendous change and growth for the betterment, under the able guidance of Late Anil Kumar Barooah (1931 – 2015; son of Late Prasanna Kumar Barooah) and his son the present Managing Director Gautam Barooah.
Today, MUKTABARI produces 9 lacs kilograms of Best Assam CTC teas annually, harvested from its own cultivation conforming to stringent norms of global standard.
With over 90 years of expertise in tea manufacturing, consistency in quality has always been Muktabari’s bench mark, although it has always strived to improve on the existing quality parameters to meet the ever demanding taste and palate of the present consumers.
